As of January 1st, 2005, the State of Indiana requires that at least one person in each food establishment, maintains a "Food Handler Certificate" unless the establishment has been exempted
by rule 410 IAC 7-22.
The rule states that a food service establishment must pass an exam that meets the standards established by the Conderence for Food Protection. If you are not sure if you or your retail food establishment is required to obtain the "Food Handler Certificate" please contact any of the Food Inspectors.
The rule is exam based and does not include a training requirement as part of the rule. Many potential certified food handlers (managers) will be seeking out this information, so the following link is a list of entities that offer training and approved examinations. Note: Rule 410 IAC 7-22 requires passing the proctored Food Manager Certification exam. Listed are approved organizations that offer nationally accredited food safety certification programs and examinations utilizing the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
