The mission of the Dearborn County Solid Waste District is to foster a sense of responsibility and inspire action by Dearborn County Residents to reduce solid waste by creating an awareness and commitment to reduction, reuse and recycling programs.
The Dearborn County Solid Waste Management District was formed in 1993 to inspire and assist residents and businesses within the county to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and otherwise properly dispose of solid waste. The District offers accessible and convenient recycling to county residents with the drive-thru Recycling center (open Fridays 12-6 and Saturdays 9-1) and 12 drop-off locations around Dearborn County, available 24/7. Household Hazardous Wastes are collected on the last Wednesday of the month, April thru November 12-6 or by appointment. Creation Station, the first reuse program of its kind in southeastern Indiana, is a clearinghouse for materials that are available to any Dearborn County teacher or not-for-profit educator at no charge. Free educational programs are available through the District for schools, churches, youth and other community organizations on a variety of solid waste issues. Please contact our educator to schedule a program for your group. Special programs, such as Document Destruction and Costume Swap are also available to residents. The District operates a Commercial Program for businesses in the County, with a current participation of 144 customers. The District is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors, appointed by virtue of their elected position. The Board meets the third Thursday of each month at 11 am at Lawrenceburg City Hall.

Eleven members of the community serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee. The Citizens Advisory Committee was formed to collect public input and present it to the Dearborn County Solid Waste Management District Board. The committee shall study subjects as specified by the Board and may recommend additional subjects for study. The Citizens Advisory Committee meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm at the Recycling Center.
