EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Public Health Coordinators prepare for emergencies, respond to them when they occur, help people and organizations recover from them, work to reduce future risk of losses and are always working to find ways to avoid or prevent them from occurring in the first place.
The key to effective public health emergency management is a rapid, well-planned response.

The public health emergency preparedness coordinator facilitates training, exercises and response planning.

These activities help to ensure that when a public health emergency occurs, the Dearborn County Health Department will be able to provide the best response possible.

WHAT NOT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY

DO NOT go to the hospital except in the case of a medical emergency.
DO NOT light matches or turn electrical switches on or off IF YOU SMELL GAS or think there may be a leak.  It is safe to use a flashlight.
DO NOT turn off any utilities unless you have been told to by emergency authorities -- or unless you know there has been some damages to gas pipes, water pipes or electrical lines.

DO NOT drive your vehicle unless you have been advised to evacuate or you have a medical emergency.  Be sure to check on road conditions or travel restricitions.

DO NOT CALL 911 except in the case of life-threatening situations!

It is very important to keep these telephone lines open for true emergencies.
