DESCRIPTION

Much of the community, governmental and entertainment information presented on the Dearborn County Web page was collected and researched by employees of Register Publications' newspaper group for its Annual Guide of Dearborn and Ohio Counties.

Publishers of the Journal-Press, The Dearborn County Register, Rising Sun Recorder, Ohio County News ,The Harrison Press and The Market Place , Register Publications is a subsidiary of Delphos Herald, Inc., headquartered in Delphos, Ohio.

Register Publications employs 43 people at its main office in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and satellite offices in Aurora, Rising Sun, and Harrison, Ohio.

As the premiere print media in Southeastern Indiana, Register Publications has a total paid circulation of about 25,000. The Register, with 8,500 circulation, is among the largest paid weekly newspapers in Indiana. The Journal-Press, with 6,700 circulation, also is one of the largest weeklies in the state. The Market Place, a non-subscriber shopper, is mailed to 18,000 homes and businesses in Dearborn and Ohio counties and Greater Harrison.

In 1997, the Journal-Press, The Register and Ohio County papers won 24 reporting, writing, photography and section awards, including first place for editorial writing, feature story, special section, sports event coverage, news photography and short business story in the annual Hoosier State Press Association's Blue Ribbon Contest. The awards ranked second among weekly newspapers, one less than the top-award winner. In all, Register Publications' editorial staff has won nearly 100 awards since 1995.

The Journal-Press , a Tuesday newspaper, is the sister publication of The Register, which is published on Thursday. Both papers serve Dearborn County, but editorial content is not repeated. The editorial staff supports both.

Local enterprise news is emphasized. Live coverage of public and private decision-makers and organizations, as well as human interest stories, are the foundation of our philosophy in Dearborn and Ohio counties as well as in Harrison and its surrounding communities.

We also dedicate time and effort to investigative stories on the environment, family, gender issues and other contemporary topics.

Serving the readers of Southeastern Indiana for more than 150 years, Register Publications' modern history is traced to Bernard McCann who bought part of The Register in 1923. His sons Gene and Dale joined the newspaper in the mid-1950s. In October 1992, the McCanns sold their five weekly newspapers to Delphos Herald, Inc.

Today, John Reiniger, vice president of finance of the parent company, is publisher of Register Publications. Joe Awad is managing editor of the newspaper group. Janet Essert is advertising director and Chase Barber is production manager. Tim Hillman is editor of the Rising Sun Recorder and Ohio County News. Ollie Roehm is editor of The Harrison Press.
