Health Department

Food Division and Defense

The Dearborn County Health Department requires that most restaurants apply and obtain a Food Service Permit prior to operating a food service. There are several Federal, State, and local requirements involved in opening & operating a food service. All food service operations and retail food establishments in Dearborn County are encourages operators to contact the department as early as possible to ensure the smooth development and eventual operation.

We are here to help you navigate and understand the rules that govern food safety. An inspector will conduct a complete inspection covering all items in the regulations for compliance or re-inspecting violations that were not in compliance at the time of the previous routine inspection.

Food-borne Illness Investigation:  if complaints are received, a food inspector conducts an inspection at the facility reported to be involved in the food-borne illness. The inspection focuses on food source, storage practices, food processing techniques, food handling and employee practices.
