Public health promotes and protects the health of people in the communities where they live, learn, work and play.  While a doctor treats individuals who are sick, Public Health workers goals are to try to prevent people from getting sick or injured in the first place, by encouraging healthy behaviors.  From conducting research to educating about health, staff in the field of Public Health work to assure the conditions in which people can be healthy. Examples are: vaccinating children/adults to health issues, to food protection inspections, to residential on site sewage systems, and to maintaining birth/death records.

Some of the many fields of Public Health:

Restaurant, Fair/Festival inspectors

First Responders

Public Health Physician

Public Health Nurses

Vital Records Clerk

Public Health works to track disease outbreaks, prevent injuries and shed light on why some are more likely to suffer from poor health than others. Spreading the word about ways to stay healthy and using evidence based practices to issues.

For after-hours emergencies, please call 911.
